The Whispering Dewdrops - X and Y Chromosome in Poetic Science and The Riddle of Science

X and Y Chromosome
Why they are important ? Without them there are no lives , no birth. They determine the sex of you and me .The female has two X chromosomes and the male has one X and one Y chromosome.A chromosome consists of a single, very long DNA helix on which thousands of genes are encoded.

So what are genes?
In simple words, Genes hold the information to build and maintain an organism's cells (The cell is the functional basic unit of life) and pass genetic traits to offspring meaning they are the unit of heredity in a living organism. Each person normally has one pair of sex chromosomes in each cell .The X chromosome represents about 5% of the total DNA in women's cells, 2.5% in men's.The other 2.5 in men is taken by the Y chromosome.

DNA in the X-chromosome is passed from mother to her son or daughter whereas the DNA in the Y-chromosome is passed from father to son .In case of a daughter , the DNA in the X -chromosome is passed from father to daughter. Since the father retains his X chromosome from his mother, a human female has one X chromosome from her paternal grandmother (father's side), and one X chromosome from her mother.

My A to Z challenge for X and Y both , is written with the above Chromosomes .I'm trying to modify the above explanation into a simple Haiku .Here I am with the Title :

X and Y Chromosome in Poetic Science:

X Chromosome :
A Daughter is born
Mother's X combines Father's
His X Chromosome

Y Chromosome :
Son's birth is confirmed
Mother's X combines Father's
One Y Chromosome

Know how to write a Haiku

The NaPoWriMo's Riddle poem :

Science Is Solving Riddles Of .....
Science is solving riddles of the Origin of life
The big bang theory denoting the formation of universe
Or the DNA cells ,a life in the invisible nucleus
The Adam and Eve ,the world's first human life
Or the Gorillas and the apes ,the hairy two legged

Science is solving riddles of Communications
Languages between the humans and his body
Languages between the plants and ecology
The Zoology of the animals ,life and their living
The fast space disc and the UFO aliens

Science is solving riddles of the Earth
The ocean's depth and the sky's expansion
The ozone depletion and the green house effect
The new diseases and the sudden natural disasters
The birth and the death ,the God and the Ghost

What the Science doesn't know is that
Science will be solving riddles of the life
Unending in nature unless the human's diverts
The search that is outside .....Within

  1. Haiku is one of my favorite exercises for practicing tight writing. It's the art of cramming a lot into few syllables, and it is something that's easy to do but takes hard work to do WELL.

You took on a real challenge when you chose to look at science - especially Genetics. Your efforts were a complete success. You did a marvelous job!

All that tight writing skill really paid off in the long form poem that follows. We artists often view science as the boring lectures and technical data behind the more abstract and artsy views of nature we love so much. You've turned it around and put science in a different light, creating a splendid read for all.

It's been a pleasure to have crossed paths with you, Uma. I look forward to seeing more.

  4. This posting captivated me. I recently pondered and produced along the same lines. I love when we jump into the flow together. Here is my science and art piece:

  6. Wow. It never would have occurred to me to try to write a haiku about genetics! Your science poem was not only filled with factual info but was artistic as well. That had to be very difficult. Well done!

  9. I find it interesting that it's the male who determines the sex of a child. I'm not sure how, but my mom told me that when she was a nurse. When you break it down, I wonder how you're able to tell what you're more likely to have?
